8 Redefining Questions
When we step back and look at how we tend to get in the way of our own progress, or unintentionally self-sabotage, we often realize that asking ourselves deeper questions about our health improvement and weight loss journey can bring insights and fewer struggles. These eight questions areas can help …
1. Prioritizing Self-Care & Nourishment
How do I typically take care of myself physically and emotionally? What small shifts could I make to up-level my self-care?
Do I eat in a way that truly nourishes my body, or do I react to emotional and external triggers (e.g., stress, boredom, environmental pressures)?
2. No to “Shoulding”; Yes to Progress
What health goals feel realistic and meaningful for my body right now, rather than focusing on what I think I “should” be doing?
How can I measure success in ways that aren’t tied to the scale (e.g., my daily energy level, mood, mobility, strength)?
3. Acceptance & Body Awareness
How can I show kindness and compassion to my body, even as I work on making changes?
Are there parts of my body that I can appreciate right now for what they enable me to do, even though I may not be thrilled with their current size/shape?
4. Movement & Joy
Might I view exercise in a more positive way? Is there a form of movement that brings me joy or a sense of accomplishment, rather than feeling like a chore?
How can I integrate more movement into my day in a way that feels good and sustainable? (Click here for my tips on building a lasting routine of movement.)
5. Focus on Possibilities
Are there beliefs or assumptions I hold about my body or abilities to change that might be limiting my progress (e.g., “I’m too old” or “I’ve always been this way” or “I’ve tried so many things and nothing works”)?
How can I reframe these thoughts to focus on what is possible, rather than past struggles or ‘failures’?
6. What’s Sustainable
What small, sustainable changes can I make to my daily habits that align with my long-term health goals? (Diets have a 95% failure rate. Click here to see how they compare to coaching.)
How can I build flexibility into my routine, allowing for setbacks without allowing discouragement to set in or giving up?
7. What’s My Go-To?
How do I manage my stress responses, emotions and challenges? Am I relying on food or other unhealthy behaviors as coping mechanisms?
What emotional needs might I be neglecting, and how can I address them in healthier ways?
8. Critical Support Systems
How can I seek the right resources or guidance (e.g., nutritionists, fitness trainers, therapists) that align with my values and goals?

These eight question areas can help you cultivate more self-compassion, insights and focus on your long-term health, rather than just physical appearance or reaching a certain a number on the scale.
