Whether you call it anxiety or stress, it's a trending topic in these post-election days that most Americans are experiencing. Regardless of the season, stress is a chronic condition in our society, but the good news is we can get ahead of it and feel so much better every day. When we do, we lessen our overeating tendencies and reduce our risks for many things  such as strokes, heart disease and high blood pressure.

Here's a short list of 11 ways to tame stress:

  1. Daily movement (aim for 30 minutes daily)

  2. Avoid isolation/connect with a community

  3. Prioritize sleep (minimum 7 hours nightly)

  4. Eat a whole foods focused diet/minimizing processed foods

  5. Minimize alcohol consumption (1 daily for women, 2 men)

  6. Stay well-hydrated

  7. Journal

  8. Adopt a daily gratitude practice (link to my handout)

  9. Adopt a daily meditation or prayer practice

  10. Laugh more (laughter yoga, comedy shows, etc)

  11. Set boundaries with media exposure
