Owning (your) Time

Embracing time change and shifting habits is challenging for nearly everyone. It’s estimated that nearly 40 percent of our days are grounded in habit. It requires a lot of awareness to embrace new ways of operating.

The autumnal change of the clock we're about to experience can throw our circadian rhythms out of whack for nearly a full week-- if we let it. Whether you love or loathe this annual ritual, the affect on our sleep can negatively show up in our mood, mental clarity and food choices.

Instead of resisting the change, I invite you to try embracing it as an opportunity.

Easy to say; But how to actually do that?

Best tactic is to try to ignore the clock change (relative to sleep and wake times anyway) and seize the shift to become an earlier riser. Why would you want to do this you ask?

When we own our mornings, we own our days

(Trust me on this, I’ve been waking at 5:15 am daily for more than a decade.)

Imagine how positively an extra hour in the morning could shift your life.

Here's a shortlist of ideas for using an extra hour in your mornings:

  • Feel less tight by spending the time simply stretching

  • Get grounded and feel more calm with some meditation time

  • Connect to your thoughts and feelings with journaling

  • Expand your mind by reading

  •  Improve your health and control how you age with movement— e.g. walking and/or resistance training

  • Meal prep for the day ahead so you’ll feel more energized
