WINTERING WITH JOY

December 21 marks the official beginning of winter. Do you feel joyful or more like a bear who wants to hibernate?

Either way, as we welcome this new season and head strongly towards a new year, it’s an opportune time to reflect on two things:

  1. What we want to release from our lives that no longer supports our well-being

  2. Ways of being that we want to embrace more fully that bring bring more joy into our lives

When we desire change, focusing on what we want more of (# 2) is much more effective than focusing energy on what we don’t want (# 1).

Habits can be a roadblock to our progress. They make up an astounding 40% of the way we humans operate in our daily lives. They help us function well and get things done. They can also hold us back and keep us from living our best and healthiest lives. Think habits such as not exercising over a lifetime or the effects of not cooking for oneself or hardly eating vegetables because you never got over not liking them as a kid.)

We make about daily 200 decisions just about food and when 40% of those are habitual and unconscious decisions, we can get STUCK in patterns that can be really tough to break.
